Beth Kehoe

About the Artist

I have spent a lifetime as an artist; painting, sculpting, and carving thrown ceramics.  Ideas move through my head, constant clouds scudding past my mindscape. As I channel these ideas, a painting forms.

I think of painting as a mystery to be solved. When I start a new painting everything seems unrelated; figure drawing, composition, color and emotions. As the painting continues, images and materials merge into a mythical, complete painting. The figures are there as a bridge to other places inside us.

Art has the power to bring surprising parts of our lives back to us, with all the complexities of the original moment. These memories reveal a bit of the mystery that makes up our inner selves. The mind steps back to understand the little enigma present in every artwork, as feelings emerge from our rich inner life.

Art reminds us that we have our own vision and point of view that belongs to us.  As I see mine and others past, present and future, with all the threads connecting us, paintings form. Art reminds us that we are connected, that we are not empty nor needed, we are full.
