"I create life size oil paintings of the human in wilderness.  Currently my work uses color, intuition and gestural strokes of the paint brush as a direct interpretation of my own experiences backpacking through the wilderness.  I try to portray how the familiar structure of time and spatial relationships are skewed, flattened and expanded when traveling in the silence of the wilderness.

The physical presence and detail in my paintings are influenced
by my career as a collected ceramicist.
The aim of my paintings is to entice
the viewer with works that are
direct and beautiful,
disturbing and quiet."

Artist Biography

Beth Kehoe is a career artist living in Seattle, WA.  Her background as the daughter of a librarian and storyteller has left her with a love of narrative.  She has a particular fascination with creating tensions in her works in the hope that the subtle interactions between her figures will encourage her viewers, if only momentarily, to imagine their own stories.

Beth began her artistic career in ceramics; creating her own, entirely unique ceramic style. Instead of relying on color and textured glazes, she carved relief patterns and images on the surface. After 20 years and countless sculpted objects, she extended her education at the Gage Academy of Art's Contemporary Figure Painting Atelier. With a highly successful career in ceramics behind her, she embraced her passion for figurative painting.   She feels that oil painting has a direct way of expressing her roiling emotions that ceramics never could.  With ceramics in her rear view, she specializes in large scale figure painting that uses a contemporary expressionist style.
